Ulos (The Batak People’s traditional textile) & Tortor (the traditional dance)

In the Batak land, ulos plays a very important role in their culture and tradition. During a cultural event, where tortor (the Batak traditional dance) is being performed, everyone who takes part usually must wear ulos. This event was performed by the Simanindo museum team, in Samosir island. The show is performed for tourists daily here in the village. Here you can see the dancers wear hand-woven traditional Ulos using back-strap loom and dyed using natural dyes, where a lot of these patterns processes no longer produced by weavers in the region. We hope that Ulos production using backstrap loom and natural dyes will be produced here widely again in the near future.
======================
